TWO Tanzanians have been arrested for allegedly breaking into parked vehicles and stealing valuables in Harare.

Majali Aribi Saidi (45) and Shimdavala Mohammedi Shomari (37) yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with theft and were remanded in custody to April 3 for their bail application.

The State alleged that on March 11 at around 10:20am, Bongani Masuku parked his Toyota Hilux along Sam Nujoma Street, and locked all doors and closed windows using the remote system and proceeded to do his business.

When he returned 10 minutes later, he discovered that his black satchel which contained an HP laptop valued at US$270 was missing.

He reported the matter at ZRP Avondale. On the second charge, the State alleged that on March 22 at around 9am, at the head office of the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development along Jomo Kenyatta Street, Harare, Edson Ngoroma parked his Land Cruiser and locked it using a remote control. When he returned he discovered that his HP laptop worth US$270 and an adapter were missing.

On the third count, the State alleged that on March 14 at around at around 10am, Chingozho Tapiwa parked his white Toyota Hilux along George Silundika Avenue, and locked it using the remote system. He then went on to do his business.

Upon returning he discovered that his iPhone 15 and iPad had been stolen. He did not file a report.

But on March 23 at around 1:30pm, Chingozho parked at Food Lovers in Avondale and locked it.

In less than 30 minutes, he drove off without noticing anything but later discovered that his iPods were missing. This time he made a report at ZRP Avondale. The iPods valued US$250 were recovered on Sunday at around 6pm, when Chingozho discovered that his cellphone was connecting to his stolen iPods and detectives tracked them to Umuzi Guest House in Eastlea.

Detectives visited the place and arrested the two Tanzanians who were found in possession of four laptops, iPods and cellphones, among other goods.
