- Freedom Mutanda Post Correspondent

CHIPINGE South Junior Member of National Assembly, Marshall Gwenzi (17) has continued having his presence felt in the constituency through charity work.

Gwenzi a Form Four student at Checheche High School in Chipinge South is proud to have rubbed shoulders with President Mugabe during one of his excursions on legislative duty.

“I am passionate about Agriculture. Zimbabwe is an agro-based nation, thus I want to contribute towards the further development of my country through taking up Veterinary Science at university,’’ he told The Manica Post when asked about his ambitions in life.

As a junior MP, Gwenzi has sought to help the less privileged at his school and the surrounding community through self-help projects.

Checheche High Schoo deputy head, Mr John Chisharu, is full of praises for the young legislator who hails from the growth point.

‘’As a school, we feel humbled by the recognition bestowed upon by the powers-that-be who found it befitting to choose one of us to be an ambassador of the constituency. As a school, we will always give him money to attend his legislative agenda. He has put our school on the world map through his exploits,’’ he said.

Having made a survey of Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Gwenzi organised a fundraising show that was well attended by the people of his constituency.

Proceeds from the show were used to buy groceries and clothes that he donated to needy students at Checheche High School and other surrounding schools.

‘’We realised a substantial amount of money from the sale of tickets for the music show that was staged here. Some of the proceeds were used to buy exercise books and to revamp the library and classrooms. Some well wishers in the constituency came on board and donated generously. My policy is to help everyone irrespective of political affiliation,” he said.

Member of National Assembly for the area, Cde Enock Porusingazi, urged young people to be vigilant and hard working given that the world is a global village.

‘’I like the way the young man carries himself. He is humble and unassuming. I urge all schools to embrace ICT as the world has become an information society. To that end, I will continue to help source funding for the electrifica- tion of schools in my constituency as the new curriculum takes centre stage,’’ he said.

Gwenzi said: ‘’I dream of a time when children will have skills that they obtain from our colleges and there won’t be corruption in the business and political world. Zimbabwe is a great nation that is ready for a takeoff. Industrialisation can flourish in a country where natural resources are in abundance.’’
