EcoCash bags international award

-

THE country’s leading mobile services provider Econet Wireless and its partner Mahindra Comviva, a global leader in providing mobility solutions, last week received the Best Mobile Payment Solution award for its mobile payment solution EcoCash at the premier GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

GSMA chief marketing officer Michael O’Hara in his congratulatory message to winners of awards hailed the quality of innovation that was on show.

“The Glomo Awards truly showcase those companies and individuals that are driving innovation in the rapidly evolving mobile industry. We thank all of our entrants, judges, sponsors and partners for supporting the 2017 Glomo Awards,” he said.

The award comes after Mahindra Comviva recently announced the debut of connectMoney Service Manager through a landmark deal with Econet Wireless, which allows the later to issue MasterCard debit cards which are linked to the EcoCash Wallet.

EcoCash was launched in 2011 and has seen the acceleration of the use of electronic payments in the country and to date it has attracted over 5 million users.

GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, uniting nearly 800 operators with almost 300 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as organisations in adjacent industry sectors. - BH24.
