RECENT media reports that most women now prefer cohabiting than marriage made sad reading. I think and still believe that marriage is good for any mature man or woman. Cohabiting includes not wanting to commit to one person and the woman can easily walk out of the relationship. In Zimbabwe, oneofthethingsevenforeigners admireisour respectofthemarriageinstitution. Ouryouthsseem not to see any value in it. Yes, one may argue that married life has caused problems to some such as abuse, cheatingandviolence. — TawandaMhlanga, Dangamvura.

Editor, thank you for giving me space in a paper that carries weight, The Manica Post. It is quiet saddening to note that many people employ maids, but end up harassing them. Some work 24/7 with limited food access, no or little time to rest. Some verbally and physically abuse their housemaids. They think maids are poor, uneducated and stupid. They don’t value them as people. Some go for months, if not a year without being paid. Some are even sexually abused and threatened. These issues need to be addressed. Let us value other people. Employers must abstain from such ruthless behaviours. The same can happen to you or your kids. Organisations responsible for domestic workers must act now to protect all domestic workers. — Zondi, NHB, Sakubva.

The river banks are a hype of activity with trucks coming to load sand. Yes, families are surviving on this activity, but the damage to the environment is disturbing. Stone crushers at the old quarry site are cuttingdownthefewremainingmusasatrees. They use the firewood to crack the big rocks. They also dig up some of the rocks, leaving a trail of destruction. The responsible authorities should act and bring those destroying our environment to book. — Dangamvura. *****

I differ with Mai Chisamba on removal of designer labels on suits. It is a brand name used for identification, marketing, prestige and status symbol purposes. Removing it is as bad as cutting the roots of a tree. Inasmuch and equally true, Mercedes Benz or BMW will not remove brand symbols after the sale of a product. Brand name is a silent salesman. Suits are not hand-washed, as such the presence of an identification designer label facilitates easy identificationwhenthesuitistakenfordrycleaning. Moretellingly, thosewhoturn greenwithenvy may admire and follow suit. I fervently hope this clears the air and knowledge, as opposed to ignorance, is home and dry. — 0774 029 881.

It is with great displeasure that I have noted that the use of plastic money may not be user friendly to thetransactingpublic. Ipaidforafewitemsusing my bank card at one of Mutare’s leading supermarkets, only to be told that my transaction had failed, yet my account had already been debited and I had received an SMS to that effect. The problem was that the transaction had not registered in the shop’s system and would have to be reversed. I had no option, but to pay cash. I was told that I would receive a reversal message within 24 hours. Banking corporations should ensure that their systems are working in order to avoid prejudicing clients, therefore causing undue resentment.— Nhamo Muchagumisa, Penhalonga.

Dr Mangudya said there are bond notes worth $102 million in circulation now, but where is the money going? I think there are few teething problems somewhere. It is indeed unbelievable.— Terrence Mwedzi.

It is true that music is a powerful vehicle used to spread message to the people. My question then is why the promoters appear not to have faith in women? As a result women are not being treated fairly. We aretiredofgettingthiskindofunfairness.— 0782 349 346.

The bio-metric voting system is very expensive andsuitablefordevelopedcountries.Untilsuchtime when we have the resources, then we cannot be left behind. ZEC should be commended for such timeous and bold decision that we revert to the manual voting system. While technology comes in handy, we should not be put under pressure by these ICT foreign firms.
