A LOCAL businessman is in trouble with the law after he allegedly assaulted a customer at one of his grocery shops in Sakubva recently.

Peter Makadzange who runs Shop Number 73, situated at Sakubva Musika appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura last Wednesday.

He is denying the charges.

Public Prosecutor, Mr Fletcher Karombe appeared for the State, while Mr David Tandiri of Tandiri Law Chambers represented Makadzange.

The State alleged that the suspect assaulted Brian Samupindi with a golf club and bricks.

“At around midnight on March 8, the complainant left his 13-year-old son outside the accused person’s shop while he went to buy airtime. He came back only to find Makadzange stoning his son and chasing him away,” said Mr Karombe.

The complainant intervened and asked the suspect why he was assaulting his son, but a quarrel ensued.

The suspect is alleged to have picked a brick and hit the complainant on his left eye and also hit him with a golf stick.

The complainant tried to block the golf stick with his left hand, but he injured his arm in the process.

“The suspect went on to throw an empty beer bottle at the complainant which hit him at the back,” said Mr Karombe.

In the ensuing scuffle the complainant lost his Iphone 5s cellphone valued at $800.

The matter goes for trail on April 10. Makadzange is out of custody on his own cognisance.
