BUDDING Zim dancehall chanter, Mugo Parewa, affectionately known as Hwindi President, faces a daunting task to thrill and satisfy local fans when he performs for the first time at Club Mandisa tomorrow (Saturday).

The 2016 most promising Zim dancehall award winner and best live performer award nominee will be facing a new audience and is expected to win the hearts of revellers, particularly the genre’s followers, who always expect the best out of a performer.

The gifted chanter revealed in an interview that he won’t be intimated but would apparently charm new fans.

“We know it won’t be easy but we are geared for the gig. The experience we have acquired through performing out of Harare has been very important and we strongly believe that we will win the hearts of many. We are going to blend old and new hits from our growing discography,” said a member of Hwindi President camp adding that plans to assemble a live band were afoot.

The Harare-based artiste whose music is inspired by highs and lows experienced in touting, stormed the musical scene in 2015 with the hit, Tambirai Monarch. He endeared himself with a legion of fans, particularly touts and bus conductors. He later released songs such as Changa chakabhiridha, Ndakabvumidzwa kupinda, Bhazi ne tuckshop and Handina kwekuriisa where he sings about his love for Bond coins and the phasing out of the South African Rand coins.

Popularly known for his signature tune, Bvunzai mahwindi pamushika shika, the chanter is expected to put the house on fire. Resident dance ensemble Mandisa Queens and Kings, upcoming Zim dancehall chanters, Jah Master and Master H will warm the stage for him. Show organisers confirmed the show. Rhumba ensemble, BV Labien will serenade rhumba lovers tonight alongside Bulawayo-based dance outfit, Digital Queens.

“Zim dancehall kingpins Kinnah, Boom Beto of the Munodonhedza musika fame, sungura musicians, Tatenda Pinjiri and Brian Samaita are headlined to perform at the venue this month. We will continue to bring artistes of various genres to our joint as we aim to satisfy our patrons as well as music lovers,” said the joint’s proprietor Boniface Nyamanhindi.
