AN ADMINISTRATION officer at Nyanga District Administration offices shot himself with a service pistol on Tuesday morning.

By the time the paper went to bed on Wednesday, reasons that led Lovemore Nyazungu to commit suicide were still unclear.

Acting Manicaland Provincial Administrator, Mr Edgars Seenza, confirmed the incident which happened around 10am.

“It is an unfortunate incident. He committed suicide by shooting himself on the chest with a pistol.

“We have not yet received more information on the reasons why he decided to kill himself.

“I have asked the Nyanga DA to provide more details. He was around 54 and we are worried why a mature person like him would fail to manage stress and kill himself. We bemoan the way he decided to end his life,” he said.

However, sources said Nyazungu went to the DA’s Office in the early hours of Tuesday and picked up a service pistol from the gun cabinet. He took the pistol home and shot himself.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, said investigations were in progress.

“I am still to get finer details of the matter. We continue to urge people with personal problems to share with friends and relatives. As police we also have a community relations and liason office where we proffer professional advices against problems that may lead one to commit suicide,” he said.
