LEST we forget our fallen heroes and heroines. The independence that Zimbabweans have today came with a price. There were men and women who dedicated their lives during the armed struggle. Their main aim was for you and me to be free from oppression. During the colonial era, Sakubva was a town for us blacks, hence now you are now getting into town at your own will. In colonial times, you had to apply for a permit to get into town. Some disappeared and were never accounted for, while others were left nursing aftermath scars. April 18 is a special day for us to thank all those who fought for the liberation of Zimbabwe. So these commemorations and celebrations on Independence Day are not for the ruling party, but for everyone who respects all struggle stalwarts. Lest we forget all living and fallen heroes—

Happy Independence Day Zimbabwe, we are happy for the day we got our freedom as a nation. We had some people sacrificing their lives for us to get our freedom. From 1980 to 2017, we have had 37 years of peace, joy and freedom with President Mugabe as our leader. I thank all freedom fighters for the freedom and peace we are enjoying. - rick Chandiwana, Osborne Dam.

As the Easter and Independence Day holidays gather momentum, this is the time we ought to be careful. Commuter and bus drivers should stick to road rules. Speeding, overloading and drunken driving should be stopped as these are recipes for disasters. Let us all thank ink of our fallen and living heroes for the independence we are enjoying. -

Zimdancehall sensation, Soul Jah Love is lyrically gifted and very talented. I urge fellow musicians in this genre to follow suit. In Manicaland, we have the most talented youths, but recording studios are few. It is disgusting. Local producers are not doing well as compared with Harare-based producers. Please, we want riddims that are well mastered. It is an open secret that Zimdancehall is leading the pack. Let us give these youths in Mutare platforms to express their feelings through music. I want to thank Diamond FM for promoting talent in Manicaland. - Mwedzi.

The cash crisis is continuing with queues at banks becoming longer. Informal traders are hoarding cash. I am always amazed seeing foreign currency dealers with bundles of cash. I think it is high time Government make a law to take cash and even search people’s homes. Money should be banked. Imagine standing in a queue to get $30 from a salary of $900. People should be forced to bank money so that cash can circulate in the market. - Tawanda Mhlanga, Dangamvura.

Stop marriages of children under the age of 18. Marriage is not about drinking or eating. It is all about loving each other as partners. Love is about having intense feelings or affection towards your partner. You should build a strong foundation for the future. Stop child marriages.— 0718207382.

*** Cross-border buses must compile passengers’ lists in triplicate, one for the point of departure, two for in transit and three for point of arrival. This is for in case of emergency. This is also international best practice, standard procedure with flying. The same goes with excursions, that is, travel and tours parties, be they ECDs, primary, secondary schools, colleges, universities and so on. - Crispen Tendai Masenhu.

While many youths and young people are complaining about lack of jobs, I was in Gweru recently and was impressed to see two young men who have created their own employment. These two innovative guys are into shoe shinning business. What amazed me most was that one of them is an orphan is taking care of his brothers. These young are earning a living from this trade. Through this popular platform, I want to urge others to look for honest ways of making money. Not wasting time blaming Government when one can use hands and make it. Hard work pays even the good books says so.— 0777696915.

Society draws a straight line for girls to walk freely and harm the same society and no-one can stop this sickness. The girls remain accused of what they are not responsible for. We are shooting shadows and think we will bring order in the society. — Mahuhushe.

*** Depositing money in the bank is akin to putting a leash on your neck. The bank now dictates how much and when to withdraw minus sweat-free charges. Gone are the good old days when interest was inserted as a reward for banking. Today’s human element is a far cry from perfection. —

I beg the authorities to legalise online gambling on football matches and other sports. The economic benefits outweigh the negatives.— BaMuna, Mutasa.
