UCCZ official drags church to court

UNITED Church of Christ in Zimbabwe’s education secretary, Mr Luke Mugobo, who was recently re-assigned from his post to take up the farms and stations manager post has taken the church to the Labour Court demanding his outstanding salary.

He is also accusing the church of victimisation.

“I received a letter informing me that I had been reassigned as the farm and stations manager from Reverend Gomendo who is the Personal Assistant to the president, a position I feel is not ideal for me as I believe there will be conflicts due to the fact that there are already farm managers at those stations. It was an ambush. They should have talked to me first and justify their action,” said a dejected Mr Mugobo.

“When I joined the church administration, as the education secretary, I was a happy man. I expected the president and the Synod to engage me on my new assignment and tell me if I had flaws in my undertaking of duties. To that end, I instructed my lawyers to seek due redress in courts,” he added.

UCCZ president, Reverend Ephraim Ngadziore, said Mr Mugobo had been re-assigned to other duties.

“He was re-assigned to another managerial post which he does not like. This is all I can say,” said Rev Ngadziore.

Ordinary members of the UCCZ said they want squabbles in the church to be a thing of the past.

“We hear Mr Mugobo was re-assigned. We wonder whether it is a promotion or not. However, we have seen how he has diligently worked towards establishing Gazaland University and we thought the church was on course to have its university just like what other mainstream churches are doing,” said one congregant.
