RECENTLY established Roman Catholic-run St Mary’s Secondary School has continued improving its results after scoring 56 percent during last November’s Ordinary Level examinations.

This was announced by the school headmaster, Mr Ian Chibvuri at St Mary’s Day and Thanksgiving Ceremony that was held at the school last Friday.

The occasion which was attended by the school’s Ordinary Level class of 2016, their parents, teachers and the rest of the school was meant to show the previous students that the school still cherished them and that they were still part of them though they are furthering their education somewhere else.

Mr Chibvuri said one of the resolutions that the governing body of the school made at a project planning retreat they held in 2012 was to have at least a 50 percent pass-rate by 2018.

He further stated that they have been fighting day in, day out to achieve that goal since then and November 2016 Ordinary Level candidates are evidence that they have surpassed their target before the deadline.

“As a school, we scored a 56 percent pass-rate when we still have two years to go before the deadline.

“A total of 66 of our 2016 can- didates came out with flying colours and that is something to be proud of. In terms of the 2016 Ordinary Level examinations, the school is now being ranked sixth out of 68 schools at district level,” he said.

He added that prayerfulness was the basis of a good student-teacher relationship and that the Catholic school values a continuous link to God.

Said Mr Chibvuri: “A prayerful child is disciplined and a disciplined child is easy to teach and we keep encouraging our students to make prayer their pillow on their day to day life.”

He also thanked the church and parents for contributing towards the encouraging results.
