A PENHALONGA teenager (19) allegedly strangled his 29-year- old lover on Africa Day.

Tiwayi Chareyamambo was not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura on Monday.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court in Harare since he was facing a Third Schedule offence.

Chareyamambo is being charged with murder as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Public Prosecutor, Mr Fletcher Karombe alleged that on May 25 and at around 7pm the late, Erica Dirwai and Charewamambo met at a footpath which is adjacent to the deceased’s residence.

They walked together in the direction of Musabaeka Farm for approximately 1, 5 kilometres in a bushy area.

“Upon reaching the junction which was their usual rendezvous, a heated argument ensued between the lovers resulting in Chareyamambo strangling Dirwai,” said Mr Karombe.

The following day, Dirwai’s cousin discovered her body lying beside a footpath while he was on his way to Musabaeka Farm.

A police report was made and it was discovered that there was a trail which indicated that the body was dragged from the scene of the crime for about 100 meters and left where it was found lying.
