Students give teacher touching farewell
STUDENTS at the famous Saint Faith’s High School (Fisco) gave their headmaster’s wife a sweet farewell at the couple’s Chirisa village home in Rusape.
The day was Saturday 3 June 2017, a day both Mr and Mrs Mukoyi described as, “… going to be stuck on their memories for a long time to come.”
The farewell party which was the brainchild of the students was organised by several clubs most of which were started by Mrs Dorcas Mukoyi during her 26 years of faithful and committed service to Saint Faith’s High School.
Speaker after speaker from the student representatives of various clubs recited poems and sang songs written in honour of what the school headboy in his own tribute to Mai Mukoyi passionately and bravely described as ‘the school’s first lady.’ Lest we forget! This is the head boy, Tendai Saungweme, who stunned St Faith’s High School and the nation at large when he scooped 14 straight As in his ‘O’ level examination results two years ago and made headline news in the papers around Zimbabwe.
Characterized by site- seeing, prayer, music, braai ( gochigochi), prepared poems and speeches, the farewell party very closely resembled a travel- and tourism outing or Mr and Mrs Mukoyi’s wedding anniversary.
The greatest gift for Mr Mukoyi, freely but kindly given by his God and Creator, was of course a humble, respectful, responsible and farsighted life partner who understands and knows her role in the family. She said it all in her speech:
“I was blessed with a loving husband; a man who loves and cherishes hard work; a man who gives woman her space to prove what she can faith- fully and humbly do to support her husband,” said Mrs Mukoyi.
“I thank my husband for planning this village home where I will be glad to spend the rest of my life farming and doing other projects to support both him and our grown and growing children.
‘‘ So don’t feel sorry for me that I have chosen to retire now.”
Mrs Mukoyi told The Manica Post that she had chosen to retire while she still had ten or more years to serve because she wanted to develop their permanent village home ostensibly to prepare for the retirement of her husband into an ideal home of both their dream.
Mr and Mrs Mukoyi are one mirror reflecting what members of this honourable but now not-so-beautiful and noble profession must do or look like while still working and looking ahead or forward to their sun- set days. If they are not, no one will be.
