Man axed over fu­neral meat

A DISPUTE over meat at a fu­neral nearly turned fa­tal af­ter a 26-year-old Chi­man­i­mani man axed a fel­low vil­lager re­cently.

Lloyd Mun­jari (26) of Kwanaka Vil­lage in Chief Mu­tam­bara’s area ap­peared be­fore Mutare pro­vin­cial mag­is­trate, Mr Tendai Mabwe, fac­ing as­sault charges as de­fined in Sec­tion 89 (1)(a) of the Crim­i­nal Law (Cod­i­fi­ca­tion and Re­form) Act, Chapter 9:23. Six months of the sen­tence were sus­pended for five years on con­di­tion that he does not com­mit a sim­i­lar of­fence, leav­ing him to serve an ef­fec­tive 18-month jail term.

Pros­e­cut­ing, Mr Fletcher Karombe, said: “On June 15, Mun­jari was at Nedziwa Busi­ness Cen­tre when he had an ar­gu­ment with Tendai Neshiri (41) on why he had failed to get meat at a re­cent fu­neral. Mun­jari pocked Neshiri. Sens­ing dan­ger, Neshiri left the place.”

He added: “At around 6pm and at Mukutya Beer­hall, Mun­jari grabbed Neshiri by the col­lar and threat­ened to kill him. Neshiri man­aged to hide in the toi­let. “
