Church embarks on community service in Chikanga
HOLY Ghost Fire International Ministries parishioners last Saturday spent the day volunteering their services to the Chikanga community as part of fulfilling the role and importance of the church to the society.
AT LEAST 500 Chikanga residents from across all denominations flocked Chikanga Hall and Clinic for the stress-relieving programme, dubbed the Full Flame 4-in-1 Community Service Saturday.
Services offered included medical services, legal services, college and career guidance and counselling and deliverance services which were all for free.
Professionals offering the services in partnership with the church included lawyers, medical practitioners, educationists, pastors and counsellors.
Holy Ghost Fire International Ministries’ responsible authority, Bishop Emmanuel Matirongo, said the programme was a Good Samaritan’s approach to identify problems and solutions in the community.
He said it was their hope to commit free services all over the city.
“We found that people are desperate for services which in turn are expensive. People cannot afford to pay for them and are dying in their homes without proper diagnose and medicine.
“They are losing property because they lack money to seek legal services and there is high demand for those services especially in high- density suburbs. We used the Good Samaritan’s approach and brought those services to them for free,” said Bishop Matirongo.
Funds permitting, he said the church would spread the initiative to all high- density suburbs in the city.
He also said in Chikanga, more than 500 people were served. The medical department served 300 people.
Bishop Matirongo said sometimes people might think that church is just a religion where people go and serve themselves and that being a Christian is only about someone’s relationship with Jesus Christ.
He said the community service was there to enlighten people that the church is about both one’s relationship with Jesus Christ and their relationship with others in the community.
