A HARARE man was recently fined $300 after he was found in possession of sex enhancing tablets and various other medicinal tablets without a licence.

Irvine Murahwa of Glen View Extension in Harare was convicted of his own guilty plea when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura, for contravening Section 29 (1) (c) of the Medicines and Allied substance Control Act Chapter 15: 03.

Representing the State was Mr Fletcher Karombe.

Mr Karombe said on July 18, Detectives Gandanhamo, Robert and Mhonda were on patrol in Mutare Central Business District when they received information that Murahwa was in possession of unregistered drugs.

Murahwa was carrying a small bag when the detectives approached him and introduced themselves.

Upon searching him, the detectives recovered unregistered drugs which include Appetito, Lofnac and Sidenafil sex enhancing tablets, Flemcid, Compound Magnesium, Trisilicate, Metro, Paracetamol, Amoxylin, Doxycylin and Imblufem Flaifeu tablets.

Murahwa was subsequently arrested for unlawful possession of the drugs. He was ordered to pay $300 fine or risk 90 days in prison.

He was ordered to have paid the fine by August 10.

The unregistered tablets were all forfeited to the State.

In mitigation, Murahwa told the court that he was trying to earn a living by selling the unregistered drugs.

He further said that if given an option to pay a fine, he would apply for a permit or licence to sell the drugs.
