Churches should preach the gospel of good news

-

EDITOR - Although churches should be a place where people come together and worship their God, I am very disappointed with the way most churches and their leaders conduct themselves these days.

Churches are now being run as businesses and I feel people must very careful when choosing a church to attend because some of these greedy churches will never solve their problems.

The whole country was recently shocked when one of the prophets urged villagers not to bury two of their relatives saying they would resurrect after 90 days.

The relatives were even instructed to fast and avoid bathing during that period but the same villagers and relatives were disappointed when the bodies of their relatives were found decomposing in the houses where they were being kept for three full months.

The Holy Book warned us in advance that because of the love for money, some people would do things which oppose the will of God. The amount of advertisements on our national radio stations and television is so shocking and it is very clear that these churches are up to something.

They advertise even in widely read newspapers to invite people to come and attend their churches not because they want to assist or heal them but they just want money.

Suffering and hungry Zimbabweans are forced to part with their hard-earned money to donate to church leaders who are enjoying happy life when their members spend the whole day without eating anything.

Pastors should not take advantage of our economy to milk the poor of the little they have. Some of the churches can even go to the extent of hiring some musical bands and the drum majorettes as a way wooing many unsuspecting people to their churches.

What is more painful is the fact that if you want to see or have a one-on-one meeting with the so-called prophet you will also be required to make a booking by paying huge sums of money. There are some booking houses at the church premises which are operating like unregistered hotels and lodges. Some established churches have got a fleet of taxis and buses which open the road making more money for the pastors and prophets.

So my fellow Zimbabweans we need to be extra careful because these churches might leave us poorer than before. These churches broadcast fake testimonies on the radio where fake patients claim that they have been healed by these churches.

Let’s be careful, the end of all things is now near so we need to concentrate on reading our Bibles rather than placing hope in wayward prophets and pastors.
