Diana ‘wore racy underwear to lure Charles back

-

WITH the anniversary of the death of Princess Diana this month, her life, loves and battle with the “third person in her relationship” are being brought back into the spotlight.

One account written by Richard Kay - who apparently “knew Diana best” - and his colleague Geoffrey Levy shares the full details of her bitter rivalry with Camilla Parker Bowles.

It describes how Di came up with a cunning plan to lure her husband back away from his ‘mistress’, now the Duchess of Cornwall, but it spectacularly backfired.

The reports, shared in the Daily Mail, relate to one evening in 1989 when Camilla’s sister, Annabel Elliot, was hosting her 40th birthday party.

Diana had been invited to the soirée but shocked Camilla by accepting on the day of the party. Staff reportedly heard Camilla shouting: “‘ Why did that f****** b**** have to come?” when she heard the news.

It was just eight years after Prince Charles married his young bride in St Paul’s Cathedral as the world watched on with hope for the happy couple.

Charles had allegedly rekindled his romance with old f lame Camilla while Diana had sought comfort in the arms of James Hewitt.

By this time the couple were said to already be sleeping in separate beds and the passion had died out in their romance.

According to Kay and Levy, this was to be “the night Diana was forced to realise that her marriage had died”.

Hoping to win Charles back, the story goes that Diana had visited Harrod’s lingerie department and picked something a little more seductive than usual, hoping to wow both with her dress and what was underneath it.

But Diana told a confidante the following day that while she was admiring her reflection in the mirror, her husband happened to look into the room and uttered three words that “shattered her”.

“You look ridiculous.” The alleged incident came seven years before the couple would finally officially divorce and just eight years before her tragic death in a car accident in Paris.

Diana’s former bodyguard Ken Wharfe, who worked for the princess for more than five years until 1993, has revealed how she reacted when transcripts of infamous ‘Camillagate’ tapes - recorded in the same year as Annabel Elliot’s party - were published by the Daily Mirror.

He wrote about Diana: “‘ Game, set and match,’ she said, clutching to her a copy of the Daily Mirror containing a transcript of the ‘Camillagate’ tape as we talked in her sitting room at Kensington Palace. Later, however, she told me that she had been
