Delusional NPF crying more than the bereaved

- Daphine Zulu Post Correspondent

‘WISHFUL thinking’ is the best and only way to describe the National Patriotic Front (NPF)’s delusional mind following NPF’s rants that ‘attacks’ on Mr Robert Mugabe were unconstitutional and had a probability to stir instability in the country, with reference to the purported violation of Mr Mugabe’s banking privacy.

Whilst this could have been treated as a private matter between Mr Mugabe and his bank, it is amusing to note that the party which previously disassociated itself from Mr Mugabe, claiming to have no strings attached to him, is surprisingly crying more than the bereaved.

According to Mr Mugabe’s mouthpiece, NPF’s confused statement, this Tuesday, titled “Unconstitutional attacks on Robert Mugabe must stop” states that NPF does not speak for Mugabe, and yet the whole press statement was addressing Mugabe’s concerns.

“While NPF does not speak for Mr Mugabe, we take exception to the self-evident and thus unavoidable fact that the unconstitutional attacks on Mr Mugabe by Zanu PF — Junta are directly linked to the audience he gave ... to NFP Presidential candidate ... Rtd Brig General Ambrose Mutinhiri...” reads the paradoxical statement.

If it’s not Mr Mugabe’s mouthpiece, then why else would they dedicate all their energies towards defending Mr Mugabe and throwing blame on the new Government when Mr Mugabe’s shameful demand for cash is awash on social media, triggering anger from the public, who for long, have had to sleep on banking queues trying to access cash, thanks be to Mr Mugabe.

In NPF’s delusional mind, it believes that the new dispensation is to blame for the negativity surrounding Mr Mugabe’s reign, failing to acknowledge that Uncle Bob had overstayed his welcome; and the shame, resentment and spite on the public sphere was all his creation; instead the public also want to see him suffer like they do since their suffering had long fell on deaf ears and people had long awaited this day, and are actually happy that chinokura chinokotama musoro wegudo chave chinokoro.

Claims that, “Everyone can see that the intimidation, blackmail and demonisation of Mr Mugabe is designed; to prevent him from exposing the fact that the 15 November 2017 military coup was unconstitutional...” among other reasons.

It is worrisome and saddening to note that the statement failed to cite even one example that Mr Mugabe was blackmailed, intimidated or even demonised; instead they are purposely choosing to use such words to portray a negative image about the new administration which has done nothing other than show respect to Uncle Bob.

If any, the new administration has been very receptive and respectful, choosing to pardon Mr Mugabe from censure, plus reward him with an undeserving generous severance golden handshake, full security for himself and his family, free flights on the national carrier, a staff complement of more than thirty people on Government payroll.

Whilst it is folly for NPF to even believe that it has the gravitas to challenge the ruling Zanu-PF party in the upcoming elections, it is hilarious to note that the small party is seizing any given opportunity to seek relevance.

Turning to NPF’s political fray, the bold political gambit by Mr Mugabe and or NPF is clearly a spoiler, aimed at dividing President Mnangagwa’s support base since Mr Mugabe believes that he still has support with the rural populace who for long sustained his reign.

Whilst it is clear to see that NPF is a political vehicle for the G40 faction, it is also undisputable to note that their thrust seems to be illegitimating the new administration, evident from Mr Mugabe’s recent statement to visiting African Union Commission chairperson Moussa Faki that he was illegally removed from office.
