Teacher rapes minor

A CHIMANIMANI teacher who allegedly gagged a nine-yearold Grade 3 pupil and raped her before giving her $ 2 to buy her silence has been hauled before the courts.

Daniel Mirisi (42) appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe last week facing rape charges as defined in Section 65 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9: 23.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

Allegations were that Mirisi who is a teacher at Ngangu Primary School on March 5 called the complainant and three other minors to assist him to carry his groceries from school to his homestead.

Soon after arrival at his home, Mirisi dismissed the other two juveniles and gave the third one a 50c bond coin to go and buy some chips for herself.

“He then invited the minor into his bedroom and raped her once,” said Mr Karombe.

The minor screamed during the commission of the crime but Mirisi is alleged to have gagged her mouth with a cloth.

After committing the offence, Mirisi is further alleged to have given the minor a $ 2 note as a bribe so that she could not tell anyone about the matter.

The minor’s grandmother only discovered that the girl had been raped after she found the $ 2 note in her possession.

She cornered her to divulge the information and she subsequently spilled the beans.

“She narrated that she had been sexual ly abused and paid $ 2 to remain silent by her teacher.

‘ ‘ The mat ter was then reported to the police where she was referred to Chipinge Hospital,” said Mr Karombe.

The case was remanded to March 29.

Mirisi was advised to apply for bail at the High Court in Harare.
