IT WAS a hive of activity at the Mutare Main Camp where hundreds of police officers drawn from the seven districts of Manicaland battled for honours in this year’s Zimbabwe Republic Police Manicaland province sports gala.

The districts competed in various sporting disciplines that include football, netball, table tennis, volleyball, athletics, chess and darts.

The gala was held in preparation for the 2018 Commissioner General’s gala to be held at Morris depot from April 6-12.

Mutare Central District was crowned champions for the third time.

Mutare Central dominated in woman soccer, athletics, netball volleyball, amassing 25 points thereby relegating Rusape to second position with 17 points and Chipinge on third with 16 points.

This year’s Propal’s sports gala saw Rusape, Chipinge, Mutare Central, Mutare Rural, Nyanga, C.I.D and Provincial Headquarters competing for top honours.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Officer Commanding Manicaland province Dorothy Kupara hailed the commitment shown by athletes and encouraged police officers to maintain unity among themselves.

“One of the major thrust of this event is to select a very strong competitive team to represent our province well at the Commissioner General’s Sports Gala. We hope you will carry our flag high. We hope that you will go there and excel and bring medals,” she said. Kupara also encouraged the selected athletes to be disciplined. She challenged the selected athletes to surpass last year’s performance.

Winners walked away with trophies and certificates. The ZRP Commissioner General sports gala is an annual event which seeks to provide a platform to identify talent that represents the country at the SARPCO games.
