ZCDC shines at ZNCC awards:
ZIMBABWE Consolidated Diamond Company excelled at this year’s Manicaland Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce business awards ceremony held last Friday at a local hotel after they walked away with the Sustainable Development Goal Champion award, while the company’s chief executive, Dr Moris Mpofu scooped the business leadership award.
Dr Mpofu was followed by William C Young of Halsted Brothers and Pratap Pareekh who were first and second runners up respectively in the business leadership award. In the SGD champion category, the diamond mining company outshone Plan International and Tendai Chitowa Foundation.
Leading local radio station Diamond FM came out tops in the business communicator of the year category and were trailed by Steward Bank and Misheck Mugadza who were first and second runners up respectively.
Mr Isaiah Musabayana of Eat and Lick scooped the businessman of the award ahead of Mr Garikayi Gwenzi of Gutika Academy and Steven Mutsongodza of First Class, who were first and second runners up respectively. Rateable Investments director Mrs Rachel Mugwagwa outshone Orpah Chikoka of Jack and Jill and Nomsa Chiadzwa of Kiddies College to scoop the businesswoman of the year award.
In the exporter of the year category, Tanganda Tea Company emerged winners while Eastern Highlands Plantations and Border Timbers Ltd were first and second runners up respectively.
Willowton Group came out tops in the manufacturing category, while Reeldon Timbers and Capital Timbers were first and second runners up respectively. Dorowa Mine emerged victors in the mining category.
Mega Market Private Ltd was the company of the year while Tongaat Hullet won the enterprise development support award. Leading network provider Econet came out tops in the Inforamtion and communication award while Tinmac Motors emerged tops in the transport and logistics award and was followed by Mastrans and Inter Africa.
Silas Kaja of top quality panel beaters won in the young entrepreur of the year category followed by Llyod Mapunga and Kudakwashe Mugwagwa of Zimbabwe Global Tours and Travel who were first and second runners up respectively.
Chimanimani-based businessman Joshua Sacco scooped the rural businessperson of the year award, while Oliver Manyerere and Chipo Chitowa were the first and second runners up respectively.
In the tertiary institution category, Africa University came out tops, while Mutare Poly and Mutare Teachers College were first and second runners up respectively. Nyanga Rural District Council won the governance for rural local authorities award and Chimanimani Rural District Council won the service delivery for rural local authorities award.
Mutasa Rural District Council were winners in the overall performance for rural local authorities category while Rusape Town Council came out tops in the governance for urban local authorities and service delivery for urban local authorities categories. In the micro small and medium enterprise category, Tinty’s Hardware emerged winners ahead of Mbanje Avmoc Farm and entertainment joint Villa Spot who were first and second runners up respectively.
Minister of State for Manicaland provincial affairs Monica Mutsvangwa who was the guest of honour, urged local business community to take full advantage of the new dispensation.
She said there was need to urgently recapitalise ailing or dormant businesses in Manicaland saying the crisis was giving her sleepless nights.
‘We also need to create access to affordable long term capital that our entrepreneurs can access start-up capital for their new projects while also accessing working capital for continuing or expanding existing operations. We simply cannot afford to underutilise existing business infrastructure. We are therefore organising foreign trips for the Manicaland business sector to go and meet investors abroad and hopefully access long term capital from potential investors,’’ she said.
Minister Mutsvangwa was also honoured with a special recognition award for playing a critical role in promotion of investment, revival of industry and infrastructure development.
