Teenager fakes rape on boyfriend

FEAR of having to explain her whereabouts to her parents resulted in a Chikanga teenager making a false rape report against her boyfriend, plunging herself into trouble with the law.

Primrose Muziwa (19) was convicted on her own guilty plea to deliberately making a false rape report at Dangamvura Police Station.

She faked that her boyfriend, Gilbert Katsande, had raped her.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe presided over the matter while Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

Muziwa admitted to making a police report on May 21, to the effect that Katsande had raped her on April 24.

This resulted in the arrest of Katsande.

However, Muziwa felt guilty about her actions and on May 25 she went to Chikanga Police Station and indicated that she wanted to withdraw the rape charges against Katsande.

She told the officers that she had made a false rape report against him at ZRP Dangamvura a few days ago.

Muziwa then gave the officers a withdrawal affidavit in which she stated that the rape claim was false and she wished to withdraw the matter so that Katsande be released.

Asked on why she lied, Muziwa begged the court for forgiveness and indicated that she did not know what to tell her parents after coming home late,.

She was remanded to a later date for sentencing.
