PARENTS and guardians of children learning at Nyamauru Primary School in Dangamvura last Friday staged a demonstration, demanding that the school’s deputy head a Mrs Matibini be transferred from the school over a litany of allegations.

Scores of irate parents, particularly from areas 14, 15 and 16 in Dangamvura stormed the school’s premises singing songs and waving placards.

Some of the placards were written “Ngaaende kwaakabva”, “Nyamauru Primary ndeyedu kwete Matibini”, “Nyamauru is not a dumping place” and “Ngaabve pano Matibini”.

Parents were accusing Matibini of taking the school into her own hands saying she was not accommodating and was not fit to lead the school.

Some parents threatened to remove their children at the school if the education authorities failed to address the situation amicably.

Mrs Matibini reportedly went into hiding as restless parents demanded to see her and “deal with her.”

“She doesn’t communicate with us. Why did the education authorities decide to bring her here after she left Mutare Junior School? She is not good for us. We are not seeing any progress under her tutelage. She must go,” said one parent.

Another parent added: “She doesn’t care about us yet when this school was opened, the education authorities told us that this school is ours.

“We are diligently paying the building fund but the school authorities keep asking us for money, for instance, our children are being forced to buy maheu everyday, where do they expect us to get the money from,” added another parent.

Other parents said they resorted to protesting against Matibini saying she was not “clean”.

“Why did the education authorities decide to dump her here? We were good with the previous leadership,” said another parent.

Education authorities led by acting Mutare district schools inspector, Mr Njikizana addressed the protesters and promised to look into the matter.

“We will look into the matter but we want to know why you no longer want her here. Just like any other teacher, she applied for a vacancy, if we remove her just like that she can apply for disturbance allowance of which the Government does not have that money.

“We did not dump Matibini here, she came from Nyamatsine and Dambakurimwa Primary Schools before she went to Mutare Junior School. She got promoted and she later came here after she successfully applied just like any other teacher,” he said.

Police officers were seen a few metres away from the school grounds amid fears that the irate parents would possibly harm Matibini or cause chaos.
