- Luthando Mapepa Chipinge Correspondent

CHIPINGE Town Council (CTC) has embarked on an emergency programme to reseal and reconstruct all major roads damaged by heavy rains received last season.

CTC administrator Mr Joseph Mashingaidze said rehabilitation work is currently underway.

“We embarked on resealing and reconstruction of some major roads of the town. We should have finished way back, but we experienced unpredictable weather conditions which disturbed progress.

“At the moment we are targeting First and Seventh streets

where we are resealing the surface and conducting routine check-ups of roads in the suburbs. We have so far finished tarring a one kilometre stretch,” he said.

Mr Mashaingaidze said the programme follows intervention by ZINARA, which assisted with the purchase of machinery.

“ZINARA helped us to purchase back-hole loader, tractor, hand-sprayers, which should be delivered any time and will effectively augment efforts to rehabilitate damaged roads,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chipinge Ward 8 Clr Zivanai Nyakuchena was on Wednesday voted the new CTC

chairperson. He will be deputised by Ward 4’s Clr Elijah Mugidho.

The town council secretary Mrs Susan Dube Malati conducted the swearing in ceremony.

In his address, Clr Nyakuchena promised to unite the policy makers and council administrators.

“In many parts of the country, the relationship between us policy makers and council administrators has been reported as very negative and retrogressive. This council is going to do everything under its power to ensure that there is separation of roles between council management

and policy makers. It is our hope they establish a mutually beneficial relationship that ultimately benefits our residents in the form of improved service delivery,” he said.
