MUTARE born rugby player Ngoni Chibuwe has settled well in Spain having featured in Getxo Artea R.T.’s first three league matches.

Chibuwe is the only African at Getxo and the club plays in the De honor rugby B, the second tier Spanish league.

“I have settled well in Spain. It is a great place to be. There are top class fields which makes the whole thing so exciting. I have played three games and we have won all the games. I am looking forward to enjoy rugby here in Spain and gain more experience. I am so excited about the new adventures. We are on top of the log and we are doing very well. I want to thank everyone who has helped me. I thank God for the opportunity.

“I arrived in Spain on September 14 and played my first game on September 16. It was a debut and all eyes were on me to see whether I will live up to my billing but confidence is all I have. Last weekend we played against Crat and we won 21-10,” he said.

Getxo are on top of the 10 team log table with 12 points from three matches.

He said he is still learning Spanish so that he communicates better with his team mates.

“It is good that I am feeling at home and understand the culture of the club. I am aware of the demands that come with playing for such an institution. I have to adjust as quick as possible and learn Spanish for easy communication. At the moment, I have a translator during training sessions. The good thing is that I now know all the calls in the game,” he said.

Chibuwe has been capped by the Cheetahs, Zimbabwe’s national 7s side as well as the 15s, the Sables.

He spent part of last season playing for Old Georgians. He is also a former Mutare Sports Club player. He revealed that his targets are to score many tries and to be influential.

Chibuwe has impressed and has maintained the form that attracted the scouters. He is now living his dream of playing international rugby.

He will be in action again this weekend when his team meet bottom placed AV Bera Bera in a league match tomorrow.
