Nzeve dinner dance on today
NZEVE deaf children's centre is hosting the 5th edition of Nzeve dinner dance fund-raiser at Queen's Hall in Mutare today (Friday) with efforts to bring the majority of people closer to the deaf community.
The dinner dance will start at around 1830 hours till late. It is running under the theme "Helping the economy thrive."
A lot of activities will be taking place which include dance, poems as well as prizes to be won for wearing the best African attire.
In an interview with The Weekender, a board member of the foundation Mrs Mazyie Dourado said the dinner dance was promising lots of entertainment and fun from the deaf community.
"The Nzeve dinner dance started five years ago with over 80 people attending the inaugural event and as time went on we have been hosting close to 500 people which shows that we are growing.
"We are also hosting this dinner dance in a bid to raise money to help people in the deaf community. I believe this gesture will bring the people together,'' said Mrs Dourado.
The event is being sponsored by Holiday inn Mutare, Family AIDS Caring Trust (FACT), MFS Group, Simukai, ZESA, Spar Mutare and OK Mart among others.
Nzeve-Deaf director Ms Libby Foster said she appreciated Mutare community for supporting the organisation.
"We are grateful to Mutare community for their support. We are particularly grateful to companies who take young deaf people for work experience or jobs. Our youth make and sell crafts. They will be selling at the Dinner Dance in order to earn money. We give deaf children and their families hope for the future," she said.
Nzeve deaf children's centre is an organisation of deaf and hearing people that promotes the rights of children and youth with disabilities to participate fully in society. The organisation works to reduce discrimination by promoting sign language and deaf culture and building deaf community and provides holistic services for deaf children and youth and their families.
