‘Your surprise wedding’ is still on

- Ann Ruthenburg

“YOUR Surprise Wedding” is still going strong, despite economic challenges blighting the country. It is amazing how people still find it within themselves to give and positively impact community.

I have learnt over time that no gift or contribution is too small to impact someone’s life.

Someone recently asked me: “Why are you not using all that energy towards getting food for poor people in the community, instead of organising some surprise weddings, which, in my view, are an unnecessary luxury?”

The answer is simple.

I do have projects for the underprivileged and so forth, but no matter how much food you give them, tomorrow they will be back asking for more.

Fulfilling an intrinsic dream that couples failed to achieve in decades is no mean achievement.

The memories of the wedding are everlasting.

The moments captured will surpass any trial and tribulation they may have to endure in the latter years of their life.

The celebration will be on the lips of the immediate family and community, for years to come.

The joy of having their dream fulfilled will fill their hearts till death do them part. There will always be someone in need of financial or food assistance, and someone out there willing to help.

“Your Surprise Wedding” is one of its kind in the city. It is a community initiative that goes beyond satisfying one’s immediate needs.

It touches people for decades to come and puts the city on the map. Just something to think about! The philosophy is: “If it is in your power to give, kindly give! If you cannot give, ask God to give you the ability to, or at least pronounce blessings over those who are giving”.

And of cause “if you have nothing good to contribute, hold your peace”.

Do you want to get involved?

It is not too late for you to get involved in this initiative regardless of which city, town, village or growth point you are.
