THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has been challenged to remain focused in the face of the current economic challenges and avoid falling gullible to subversion tactics that may be employed by uncouth people capitalising on the difficult economic patch.

Speaking during the General Squad Drill and Small Arms Tactics Course graduation ceremony at 32 Infantry Battalion last Friday, guest of honour, Commandant All Arms Battle School, Colonel (Col) Canaan Dzeka Chimudzeka urged soldiers to maintain their focus in face of the economic challenges and avoid being gullible to unnecessary things.

“It is during such trying times that your loyalty is put to test. Be wary of elements that may try to subvert you taking advantage of the economic difficulties in the country. I urge you to remain resolute and focused in the face of these challenges,” he said.

Col Chimudzeka commended the graduands for their hard work and perseverance during their training period.

“It is common knowledge that our country is going through economic hardships and I am aware that you encountered some logistical challenges during the course of your training. I am glad that you all persevered and managed to complete the course as an intact group. It is because of such resilience to hardships that the ZNA has been able to score remarkable success even under adverse conditions,” he added.

Speaking during the same event, the School Commandant, who is also the Commanding Officer 32 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Anderson Chibvongodze explained the significance and purpose of having such training courses in the army.

“The course’s curriculum is specifically tailored to develop a junior non-commissioned officer who is going to drill a squad and deploy section weapons hence it has a bias towards practicals in order to expose students to the realities of handling men and equipment back at their units,” he said.

A total 65 students, seven of which were females, graduated with certificates.

The 15 week long rigorous training basically emphasised on basic soldiering skills training, weaponry, field craft, foot and arms drill among others.
