- Ray Bande Senior Reporter

THE star keeps shining for First Class Academy in Mutare after posting impressive results in the Advanced and Ordinary Level examination results that were released recently. The college, which is located in the vicinity of the sprawling high density suburb of Sakubva, had a total of 67 A Level candidates across arts, science and commercial subject combinations, obtaining 10 points or better while 22 learners got nine points.

In the A Level results, two of First Class Academy candidates – Gamuchirayi Chitiyo and Clemence Vheru – attained 19 points in commercials.

As if that was not enough, a science subjects A Level student Dean Tengesu obtained 17 points while another one got 16 points in the same field.

In an interview, First Class Academy deputy headmaster Mr Benjamin Mutasa commended the students and the teachers for their hardwork.

Mr Mutasa said the college was looking forward to better results this year.

‘I really want to thank the teachers and the students for the effort that they put into schoolwork. The results are ample evidence of the hardwork of teachers and students.

“We have no doubt that we will surpass our standards next year because we are adapting to the pressing demands and challenges of the new curriculum.

“By all standards, for a college that is not a conventional school, we are really proud of the work that we are doing as evidenced by the results that our candidates are getting,” he said.

“Mr Mutasa said although they did not match their previous achievements in Ordinary Level examination results, candidates that sat for November 2018 exams at First Class Academy did not disappoint.

“We are happy that we continue to post impressive results both at A Level and O Level. Yes, results are showing a slight decline in the performance of students in Ordinary Level examinations from the previous year but it was not really bad. In fact, we had students who did exceptionally well and we hope to build from that achievement going into the future,” he said.
