Last week’s announcement that Government was introducing a flat non-taxable Covid-19 allowance of US$75 for civil servants and increasing their salaries by 50 percent is commendable.

The development will go a long in cushioning civil servants against the tough economic environment that has seen prices for goods and services going up on a daily basis as most businesses are now pricing their products against the US dollar black market rate. ***

The closure of small businesses had a ripple effect in the cities they operate in. It is folly for a small business owner to assume that their customers will automatically come back post Covid-19. Everyone’s world has been turned upside down and customers have not been spared. Consumers are re-evaluating their choices and each business needs to be on the pulse with regards to what customers now want.

Before resuming any production or service delivery, the business owner has to ensure that the supply chain and distribution ecosystem are ready to meet the new needs of the customer. — Concerned.
