Greenfuel Angels raring to go

- Ray Bande Senior Reporter

ONE of the three Manicaland-based National Rainbow League (RNL) teams — Greenfuel Angels — remains steadfast in their preparations for resumption of netball action as soon as Covid-19 eases.

Not even the recent spike in the country’s Covid-19 cases has stolen the Lowveld angels’ zeal.

Through consistent online monitoring, the team has continued strict supervision of their players’individual physical training sessions. Club chairman Kuziwa Mutazu said they have not had problems with the online individual physical training.

“In order for our players to remain fit, each player is exercising individually at home.

“We encourage them to take a one to two-minute video clip of the exercise and send it to the coach. That way we can see that players are training at home to keep fit,” he said.

Greenfuel Angels have been a source of entertainment for the largely marginalised Chisumbanje and Checheche communities.

“The team has been in existence for a long time under Welfare for Community Entertainment. I found the team in existence when I joined the company in 2015. In 2016, we joined Zimbabwe Netball Association (Zina) Manicaland until 2018 when most teams joined the RNL.

“We were top among the six teams. In 2019, we joined RNL Eastern Region and we came out tops again, hence this is our maiden season in the elite league,”said the club chairman.

When league action was aborted owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, three rounds of league matches had been played.

With player transfers quietly going on during the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown, it could be a different ball game altogether when action finally resumes.

Greenfuel has acquired the services of gifted goal defender, Concillia Masikati, from Tenax.
