Unpacking drug abuse

-

Ruth Jombe

DRUGS come in various forms, whether they are illicit or prescription drugs.

The range of reasons why people take drugs is as broad as the types of people who use and abuse them.

Drug addition can affect anyone of any background and of any socio-economic status.

Contrary to popular belief, drug abuse doesn’t only affect the homeless or those from poor families.

Educated individuals with high paying jobs can be vulnerable to drug abuse as well.

In general, there are three causes of drug abuse. All these causes are a result of some sort of emotional, physchological or physical factors.

Stop child marriages

Ropafadzo Mwaingeni

Life has become a bitter pill to swallow for parents.

Waking up everyday with another worry about what the kids will eat and drink, especially in this Covid-19 era where it’s becoming hard to keep up with the family’s daily needs.

Due to this, parents aren’t able to meet some of their children’s needs and some of the young ones end up looking for “blessers”.

This is leading to teenage pregnancies and child marriages.

Everybody has to play a part in stopping child marriages.

True face of love Delight Mwamuka

In life there comes a time for everything. So don’t rush for the future while neglecting your present.

As the wise man said, lost time is never found. I always wonder why my fellow sisters fall prey to this crazy little thing called love.

At first it’s a very sweet dream which you never want to wake up from. At the end it’s that nightmare which you wish would just come to an end.

Promising you the moon and the stars. Yet he can’t even buy you a mint. But you hopelessly fall for those sweet talks.

Claiming you are the most beautiful girl on planet earth. Lying straight to your face. Afterwards he tells 10 other girls the same thing.

Very soon you will realise you were building castles in the air after getting pricked by the thorns of the roses that gave you sleepless nights.

Like a chameleon he changes his colours, turns his back on you and acts like he never met you before.

For you it’s already too late. You can’t just walk away because you already have another life growing inside you.

You helplessly wait for his call, which seems like another wild goose chase.

The Romeo seems to have spotted another oblivious Juliet.

You are left to pick the broken pieces alone and figure out where to from there. All the flashbacks trigger tears.

Surely when love turns sour only one person is left to bare the dire consequences.

Life is put on hold until the dreaded nine months period is over. Society couldn’t get a better chance to voice out it’s deadly opinions.

Stones are hailed to the girl child. Putting a question mark on her character and making sure they defame her.

But what happens to the boy? He’s left to walk scott free in society. Giving him wings indeed.

Unbeknowest to society, they are breeding a harmful generation of men who believe they can always have their way in life and get away with it.

They can do whatever they want, whenever they feel like it and to whoever; as society will only point the finger to the females.

Then you wonder where this violent generation is coming from. It’s because growing up, a girl has always been told that nomatter how hard it gets, they should strive to maintain a marriage.

No matter how deceptive the husband is, the wife must always be submissive.

But is that the life we want for our children? Where life is only rosy to some but injurious to the others?

The answer is no.

I hope my fellow sisters and mothers will take a stand against this injustice.
