Blockbuster film Kudakwashe premières
HIGHS and lows in a young couple’s relationship, as well as their conflicting religious and cultural beliefs are some of the themes uncovered in an intriguing movie, Kudakwashe, which is set for première tonight.
The film, written and directed by Martin Makaya, fondly known in showbiz as SaMakaya, will be premièred at Mutare Hall, formerly Queens Hall, at a red carpet event that is set to draw scores of filmmakers and showbiz aficionados in the city.
The film was shot in various locations such as Dangamvura, Mutare Central Business District and Chikanga.
The actors and actresses put their all on the set, while the producers did a splendid job to come up with a polished product.
If well-marketed, the film is set to break new grounds and place the eastern border city’s film industry on the national and regional map.
Part of the cast include the versatile Leonard ‘Lampy’ Tsikira, Garnet Madimutsa, Charlene Satoro, Primrose Jinga and Meluleki Ndlovu.
The movie has a runtime of one hour, 20 minutes.
“Kudakwashe is an intriguing story of a Catholic young man who, in an unlikely situation, falls in love with an Adventist young woman. Their love tries to survive in the circumstances facing today’s young adults.
“The highs and lows, the twists and turns, the intrigue and the suspense make the movie a must watch. So far, Kudakwashe promises to be the most valuable project of the year, with almost half of the seats already sold out.
“We are happy with the response and we are pleading for support as we intend to make the première a resounding success,” said SaMakaya.
SaMakaya (28) is the founder of Vuvuzela Visual Studios (PBC) and he has worked with various organisations in achieving the vision.
Over the years, he has directed seven films, among them two feature films and two series. These include Ngozi, KudakwaShe, Conclusion, Hondo and Wechitatu, among others.
He has played a critical role in refining Mutare’s film industry.
His vision is to attract investment in Mutare’s film industry and grow the city into a capital of the trade.
