- Ray Bande Senior Reporter

THREE young men yesterday (Thursday) completed at least 90 days of sobriety under intensive rehabilitation to bring the number of beneficiaries of the Psychotherapy Care, Counselling Services and Recovery Centre in Mutare to 42.

The three, who received intense behaviour modification recovery programmes that include group processing, psychological education, individual counselling and support group assistance among other services, heartily thanked Psychotherapy Care, Counselling Services and Recovery Centre for giving them another chance to contribute meaningfully to their families and community.

Dr Mazvita Machinga, the psychotherapist and clinician in charge of Psychotherapy Care, Counselling Services and Recovery Centre located in a secluded area towards Zimunya in Mutare, said: “We are soldiering on with the fight against drug abuse as an institution, and we are happy with the support that we are receiving from Government and all stakeholders, including relatives of those into substance and drug abuse.

“Above all, we thank God for the help we have been receiving in rehabilitating those who fall to drug and substance abuse. Yes, I am a psychotherapist and clinician, but at the end of the day, it is God who does the healing.”

Guest of honour at the graduation ceremony, director of youth development, Mr Alexis Mwakipesile, said: “Government is really concerned about the scourge of drug abuse, and this is the reason why numerous initiatives have been undertaken to ensure that it is reduced significantly across the country.

“To this end, Government has put in place existing provincial and district committees that cover different areas of interest including community rehabilitation, demand reduction, supply reduction, antidrug and substance abuse include harm reduction, media and communication, research and development.”

Parents and relatives of yesterday’s three graduates were a bundle of emotions as they poured out on how drug and substance abuse had, not only derailed the lives of the three, but also caused untold suffering within their homes.
