Family seeks help after fire guts down house
A FAMILY in Florida, Mutare, is appealing for assistance after their house was gutted down by fire around 8am last week on Wednesday.
According to the property owner, his family is unaware of the cause of the fire that burnt down the section they occupy and left the section that was occupied by tenants intact.
Police and other stakeholders are still conducting investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Sadly, when the fire brigade arrived at the scene, almost all household property had been destroyed, with only a few items being recovered.
Mr Nyaradzo Nyamavhuvhu, the owner of the house, said when the fire broke out he was not home as he had walked his friend out.
Mr Nyamavhuvhu recalls that on the night before the catastrophe, there had been a fumigation of cockroaches in his home. He said the pesticide used seemed to be stronger than the one he is accustomed to.
He said his pregnant wife started experiencing challenges that night and was frothing at her mouth.
“I yelled for help during the night after she became unconsciousness. A family friend I had called arrived to help me. After she recovered, early morning I walked my friend out and left him at the bus stop, only to return home and discover that the house was engulfed by flames.”
“It was an unstoppable ferocious fire that took down the left wing of the residence, with the destruction of the other side stopped by the opportune arrival of our neighbours
and the fire brigade,” said Mr Nyamavhuvhu.
“I am shocked and have no idea what caused the flame. The roofing sheets were not totally destroyed but the fire destroyed everything, including our clothes and the baby’s preparation. While l cannot give an approximate value of the property that was destroyed, we lost everything,” said Mr Nyamavhuvhu.
He appealed for assistance from members of the public.
“I am appealing to well-wishers to help me and my wife in any way they can as we are expecting our first child. In terms of the house, we would appreciate individuals open to joining the effort to rebuild its roof and electricals so that it may be a home for my family. So our plea is for any form of assistance since we lost everything, even basics such as food stuffs and blankets,” he said.
