Three graves desecrated

- Tendai Gukutikwa

MYSTERY surrounds the desecration of three graves at a Mutambara community graveyard barely a month after the burial of the people.

The Munjoma family members, who are part of the Mutambara royal family, are at the centre of the mysterious development.

The graves that were desecrated belong to Guidance Munjoma and Nyika Munjoma who both died in December 2023, as well as Alice Munjoma who died in January this year.

The affected families are smelling a rat and are now pointing fingers at each other.

Acting Chief Mutambara got wind of the bizarre developments and recently summoned the Munjoma family to his court.

After the matter was dealt with by Acting Chief Mutambara, the Munjoma family was referred to a white garment prophet, Ephraim Chagwadama, who told them that the corpses were missing from the three graves.

He alleged that the corpses and souls of the dead were being used by one of the Munjoma family members who is a church leader to gain spiritual powers.

When The Weekender visited the area last week on Saturday, our news crew was denied entrance into the graveyard and access into the Munjoma Village.

However, Acting Chief Mutambara confirmed the incident, saying he was alerted by the late Alice’s son, Caddy Munjoma, that his mother’s grave had been tampered

with.

“Caddy told me that his mother had visited him in his dreams and told him that she was not resting well as her grave had been desecrated. Caddy was asking for permission to visit his mother’s grave because in this area, you do not just wake up and wonder into the graveyard for no reason.

“I gave him the nod to visit his mother’s grave and later that day, he came back and said his mother’s grave was tampered with. It had been dug for about a metre. He brought his mother’s relatives to show them what had happened.

“We are yet to deal with the matter, but I referred them to Chagwadama. Chagwadama told them that it was not only one grave, but three graves had been tampered with. He claims that the bodies are missing from the tampered graves,” said Acting Chief Mutambara.

Caddy’s family paid Chagwadama for his services and they believe that “the corpse is now back in its grave”.

The hole on the grave has since been filled up.

“Nyika and Guidance Munjoma’s families were also told of the desecration of their relatives’ graves but they are yet to pay the prophet so that the graves can be attended to. They can’t just cover the holes at the graves without spiritual help, otherwise the dead’s souls will remain restless,” said the traditional leader.

Acting Chief Mutambara said the matter will be dealt with tomorrow (Saturday).

“This matter involves some family members who are in the United States of America and in Harare. You will have to come back next Saturday to get the full story,” he said.

Acting Chief Mutambara added: “When we identify the culprit(s), they will be fined accordingly before the graves are repaired.”

The Weekender also caught up with the prophet (Chagwadama) and he said when he was consulted to resolve the mystery, he unearthed some money and oracle bones from Alice’s grave.

“The money was inside the coffin, but I used my spiritual powers to bring it out. I did not open the coffin.

“In Alice’s case, I have since returned her corpse and soul back into the grave. I also effected a back to sender prayer on the culprits. These graves were tampered with way back, but people did not notice it.

“The dead are angry, which is why they want the truth to come out. I discovered that the person behind the desecration of the graves is a family member who is also a church leader. The man is using these bodies to gain spiritual powers at his church. He is behind the endless deaths in the family,” said Chagwadama.
