HILLCREST Golf Club raised Zimbabwe’s flag high after its girls shone at the World Championships Qualifiers held recently at Huddle Park Golf Club, South Africa.

The team qualified for international tournaments in Thailand and United States of America.

The young ladies won three trophies and three medals.

Natalie Dana also made it to the Top Five in the Girls’ 13 category, while Kumbiraishe Mugwagwa was runner-up in the Girls’ 15 - 18 category.

On third position was Kundainashe Mugwagwa.

Ruvarashe Madziyire came out second in the Girls’ Under-14 category, and she walked away with a trophy.

Tinodiwanashe Kuipa and Judith Dzvetero also received medals for the Girls’ Under 15 – 18 category after they were in the Top 10.

Hillcrest College’s marketing assistant and teacher-in-charge of golf, Michelle Nyabadza, said they are excited with the development, and are looking forward to make history in forthcoming international events they will participate in.

She said they are working hard in training to fine tune their skills as international contests are not a stroll in the park.

“We are now preparing our golfers for the tournaments they have qualified for in the USA and Thailand as well as local tournaments. The Montclair Invitational Tournament in Nyanga is set for June 14 and 15, and regional tournaments like the Junior Africa Challenge will be from August 19 to 23 2024 in Durban, South Africa.

“We are preparing hard, and we believe we have a whole lot more to offer. We are excited that they young golfers managed to make history, and did the country proud. I am happy that they are showing the zeal and the verve to achieve more,” she said.
