PREPARATIONS for the 44th Independence Day celebrations at Murambinda B High School have reached the 70 percent mark, signifying huge strides towards the province’s readiness for the national event.

Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Micheck Mugadza said preparations are progressing well and on schedule.

Minister Mugadza said diligent efforts are being made to ensure that all logistical, infrastructural and organisational aspects of the event are effectively addressed.

“Manicaland is on track to host a successful and memorable Independence Day celebrations this year. Changing rooms for the state-of-the-art stadium being built at the stadium are about 40 percent complete, while the ground itself is 70 percent complete – that is from the laying of the turf to terracing of the ground.

Our access roads are also being constructed, and are at 60 percent,” he said.

Minister Mugadza also said the 120km Murambinda-Birchenough Road is being rehabilitated, with 60km now trafficable after being graded and spot gravelled.

He said the Chivhu-Nyazura Road is also undergoing pothole patching.

“This is very positive, and we are happy that everyone is doing their part.

We have adequate resources, but because of changes that arise when preparing for such a grand event, we might require more.

“The host school also needs sprucing up and we are happy that those responsible for that are gradually moving onto the ground to start work and have promised to complete the task in time,” he said.

Minister Mugadza said with the forthcoming celebrations drawing near, expectations are running high among the people of Manicaland, particularly those in Buhera.

“As preparations continue to progress, we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that every detail is meticulously attended to. From security arrangements to accommodation logistics, efforts are being intensified to guarantee a seamless and memorable experience for all attendees.

“As Manicaland, we are poised to play a pivotal role in this year’s Independence Day

celebrations. With the remaining preparations expected to be completed swiftly, we remain honoured. The decentralisation of the celebrations to Buhera is a symbol of honour, and as the people of Manicaland we have welcomed it with humility. We will show our appreciation by turning out in our thousands.

“I can assure you that there will be a lot of people here on the day,” he said.

At least 70 000 delegates are expected on the day.

Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister, Honourable Angeline Gata said they are elated with the enhancement of infrastructure at the school.

Honourable Gata said the construction of the state-of-the-art sports stadium will provide learners with access to top tier sporting facilities, fostering a culture of physical fitness and healthy competition, even after the celebrations.

“The initiative to spruce up the school’s

infrastructure and establishing a modern sports stadium reflects a broader agenda to enhance the learning environment and promote holistic development among learners.

“There is need to emphasize the significance

of undertaking these initiatives in conjunction with the Independence Day preparations. The importance of investing in education and infrastructure development underscores Government’s dedication to fostering national progress and prosperity,” she said.

Honourable Gata also said the renovations and construction will benefit, not only learners and staff at Murambinda B High School, but also the broader community.
