Mpilo makes strides

MPILO Central Hospital has recorded a marked reduction in maternal mortality from as much as three per week to nearly zero a month, according to the Health and Child Care ministry.

According to the Health ministry, a combinatio­n of factors such as free maternal services has resulted in near-zero maternal mortality per month at Mpilo.

“Mpilo Central Hospital has successful­ly implemente­d measures to reduce maternal mortality from an average of three deaths per week to 0 which include reasonable service delivery, free maternal services and free blood transfusio­n services,” the ministry said.

“On average, the hospital witnesses 30 deliveries a day.

“There have been massive reductions in maternal mortality from an average of 4 per week to zero or three per month.”

Highway robbers jailed TWO men from the Lutumba area under Chief Sitaudze in Beitbridge who robbed a Zimbabwe National Roads Administra­tion Authority (Zinara) cashier of his car and accessorie­s have been slapped with 10-year jail sentences.

Discuss Muleya (34) and Hardlife Ndou (20) were denying the robbery charges when they appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Maphios Moyo last week, but were convicted at the close of the state case.

Prosecutor Munyonga Kuvarega said on December 11 last year, Musanhi was driving his Honda Fit vehicle near White Lodge in Beitbridge on his way home from work.

Muleya and Ndou were riding on a scorchcart with two yet-to-be-known accomplice­s who are still at large.

Musanhi pulled o the road before the duo pounced on him and robbed him of his car, cellphone and various vehicle accessorie­s.

On the same day the two also robbed Humbulani Mbedzi of his mobile phones at knifepoint.
