“It’s hard and we are just like everyone else away from football. This is where we come to work [New Douglas Park] and away from here we are living life just like everyone else.”

HAMILTON, SCOTLAND — Hamilton Academical and Zimbabwe forward David Moyo (pictured

right) admits it’s been hard to live in isolation as the football season continues during the pandemic.

Last week saw a fresh blow for Accies as boss Brian Rice revealed defender Jamie Hamilton had tested positive for Covid-19.

Moyo gave an insight into what it’s like to be a footballer while dealing with the virus following the news.

“It’s been hard especially for people like me who are away from home,” Moyo said.

“You’re just very isolated and very much by yourself.

“It’s very difficult at times, but it is what it is, we can’t change it and just have to get on with it.”

On how he fills his days away from New Douglas Park, he says: “Sleep, Netflix, stretch, read; try and fill the days as best you can.

“It’s hard and we are just like everyone else away from football. This is where we come to work [New Douglas Park] and away from here we are living life just like everyone else.”

In addition to helping Hamilton survive relegation from the Scottish Premiership, Moyo also has his sights set on earning a call-up to the Zimbabwe national team.

The 25-year-old striker was born in Harare and moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 11 where he started his career at Northampton.

Moyo, who joined Accies from English National League South side St Albans City in 2019, played for the Warriors in an Under-23 game in Morocco in 2014.

He is looking forward to a return to international action for Zimbabwe, who face Algeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header next month.

He said: “Obviously, I’d love to play for my country.

“They’ve been in contact, but it’s up to me to prove to them that I’m the man to do the job and that I deserve to be called up and to play in my national team.

“They said that they’re watching me and they’ve seen a few games and stuff like that so we’ll see where it goes, but nothing is set in stone as of yet.

“In 2014 I played for the Under-23s, so it will be good to finally get a senior call up.”

Moyo scored for his side Hamilton Academical as they lost 2-4 to Aberdeen in a Scottish Premiership match on Tuesday night.
