Ncube launches haircare products

- BY STYLE REPORTER

Enterprising Harare businesswoman Lieta Ncube seems to be stepping into the shoes of socialite, actress and former model Kubi Chaza Indi after she ventured into a cosmetic business.

Ncube, who runs a successful cosmetology business in the capital city, recently launched skin and haircare products under the brand name Mwenje.

A product of the Harare Polytechnic cosmetology department, Ncube says she is someone who is passionate about skin and hair care.

“The drive to come up with my own brand of skin and hair care products emanates from my passion as a young girl. I was deeply into the person’s looks, skin and hair,” Ncube told Standard Style.

“I get so emotional every time I see a woman starting her business from scratch. I know and understand how much time, effort and energy they would have put to come up with a brand.”

She described Mwenje as her own creation augmented by her cosmetology training.

“Like I said, I was into skin and hair care way before I went to college. Yes, the training I got congealed my love for skin and hair care, hence coming up with these products,” she said.

“From my interactions with people, I also realised that women prefer natural organic skin care products which compelled me to start my own skin care range made from natural organic ingredients.”

The Mwenje skin care range has butters, lotions, oils and soaps.

Apart from producing skin and hair care products, Ncube runs a popular cosmetology business, Wig Centre in Harare, specialising in hair.

“We also make and sell wigs, mainly the popular Brazilian and Peruvian hair. We also make hair closures, hair colouring, braiding and weaving,” she said.

“My business is located in the city centre and is quite popular as we export some of our wigs and hair extensions regionally and internationally.

“We have quite a number of local celebrities among our clientele, including musicians, radio and television personalities, politicians and business executives.”

She says she is working on establishing a cosmetology training institution although she has been mentoring women in marginalised communities.

“Wig Centre is working on opening a hair academy. It is something in the pipeline with the aim of training future cosmetologists,” she said.

“However, we have reached communities in Murewa and Marondera where we have offered free tutorials to marginalised women.”

Ncube said she was looking forward to export her Mwenje products.
