Modelling, fashion is banal: Charlene Nyoni

BULAWAYO-BASED model and fashionista, Charlene Nokuthula Nyoni (pictured), says fashion and modelling are an everyday thing to her.

A Strides Models graduate, Nyoni has only taken part once in a beauty pageant in her career opting for fashion shows and professional photo shoots.

She has done a bit of acting on two television productions.

“For me, everyday is a fashion show and the world is my ramp,” Nyoni told Standard Style.

“When I describe modelling in brief, I could say its how I look, how I feel from inside every day, modelling is banal. It’s my everyday living.

“How I live and bring the beauty out of me, so that I inspire or give light to the next person.”

Nyoni won Miss Africa at Townsend High school in 2018 before she was spotted by Sipho Mazibuko’s Strides Models.

The pageant was her first and last competitive contest.

“I haven’t been on the ramp for a beauty pageant besides the one I did in high school,” she said.

“However, I have always appeared in fashion shows and exhibitions.

“I see beauty pageants as accosting and time-consuming. My goal is to be a fashionista or a fashion model and thats the reason why I do more of fashion shows.”

Nyoni wants to get involved more in brand ambassadorial roles and to advance with her acting career.

“I was inspired by Hillary Makaya and in the next five years I want to be like her,” she said.

“I want to represent corporates brands in advertising. I want to be an ambassador to big fashion brands in and around the country.

“I have also featured on television series Machena Pachibhorani and Burning Altars. I would like to work more on my acting career.”

Nyoni was born in Bulawayo and went to Townsend High School.
