‘The show must go on’: Gurura launches Reset

- BY KENNEDY NYAVAYA

Writing stories from lived realities has the power to inspire positive perspectives and give hope in the midst of crisis like the Covid-19 pandemic, renowned broadcast journalist Mcdonald Gurura has said.

Gurura recently launched a book titled Reset: An A to Z Guide to Thrive in Trying Times, which is an alphabetically enthused anthology of stories from 26 authors chosen — by Gurura — from across the spectrum.

In an interview with Standard Style, the award-winning scribe said the book was a compilation of inspiring narratives by Zimbabwean writers to fellow compatriots and the world.

“We are saying that Covid has been terrible and it hit us hard, we found ourselves in loss in terms of substance and life but as they say proverbially, the show must go on,” said Gurura.

“Instead of just having a bleak narrative we decided to provide an alternative, a positive image and to just say from there, lets rebuild life as it were, lets rise up from the knees that this virus has brought us to.”

The book consists of stories from BET award-winning singer ShaSha, comedian Doc Vikela and author Charles Mungoshi Jnr, among other influential voices.

According to Gurura, the anthology that is set for launch throughout the country’s provinces, is not only an effort to document powerful messages, but also to capture history for future generations.

“It is a message to coming generations that this is what we went through and these are the stories of Zimbabweans and how they experienced or dealt with it. So more than anything, we are anticipating that this book will speak to generations to come,” he said.

Reset is Gurura’s second offering after launching an audiobook titled Shift a few years ago.

“There are some more books coming in the near future and my next work set for launch next year is titled Sieze the Day,” Gurura said.

“The mission is telling stories that will forever be etched in the history of Zimbabwe and the whole world.”
