Zimbabwe schools quiz ready to roar

THE 2017 edition of the Zimbabwe schools quiz tournament is around the horizon and is back with some changes effected, according to the organizers, Book of African records. In a statement released by Book of African Records, it was indicated that the quiz now includes both Primary and Secondary schools, being free of charge!

This year’s quiz will go beyond the traditiona­l national finals and go on to the African continenta­l level. This year’s quiz will include both primary and secondary schools. This is mainly aimed at widening the knowledge base about Africa. Every school that will be interested in participat­ing will also do so free of charge, all that a school needs to do is to register. This year’s event will see the national winners getting the sole ticket to represent the country at the all-Africa schools quiz in December.

Registrati­on and mobilizati­on for the tourney has begun and interested schools are encouraged to register, though the schools shall be contacted. As usual, the quiz will begin at Provincial level. In the Primary schools tourney, each school shall be given four chances to qualify for the national finals, with the three top schools proceeding to the Televised National Finals.

As for the secondary high schools quiz, there shall be eight chances, with also the top three schools qualifying to the Televised national finals. Provincial finals for Primary schools will take place on Saturday 20 May 2017 whilst the Televised National Primary school quiz will take place from 21 August to 23 August 2017.

For the secondary schools, the first provincial competitio­ns will take place on 13 May 2017 (first four chances). The second provincial competitio­ns will take place on 03 June 2017 (second four chances). National finals televised Secondary schools quiz will take place on 14-17 August 2017. The All-Africa schools quiz will take place on 1-7 December in Windhoek, Namibia. The premiere edition of the Book of African Records will help the interested participan­ts with more informatio­n when preparing for the quiz and can be obtained from the Book of African Head Quarters in Harare. Also, workshops will be held between 12 February 2017 and 17 March 2017 at any mutually Agreed venue between the school and Book of African Records.

Overall winners of the High Schools Provincial tournament will walk away with $100, trophy and a certificat­e, the first runners-up will get $50 and a trophy and the second runners-up a trophy. High schools national finals winners will get 4 Laptops, runners-up 4 tablets and the second runners-up will get 4 smartphone­s.

The All-Africa Schools quiz tournament to be staged in the sub-Saharan nation of Namibia will see the winners walking away with $50 000 in cash, second-placed country getting $30 000 and the third placed country taking $20 000.
