Celeb birthdays take shape

- Andrew Moyo

JIVE Zimbabwe has over the years been able to come up with numerous initiatives in their drive to promote local artistes.

In January, they decided to start hosting monthly joint birthday celebrations for personalities in the arts industry.

Their first party, dubbed the “JaNOworry Babies Birthday Celebration”, was held on January 29 at Truck Inn in Southerton where they celebrated birthdays of several people in the arts industry who were born in January.

This month’s edition, the “Fabulous Hangout Party”, is on today at Dandaro Inn at the Exhibition Park and it is set to be exciting considering the success of the first event.

Some of the personalities whose birthdays are being celebrated today include Winky D, Boom Beto, Tytan, Photovet, Ras Caleb, Trust Khoza, Vee Mukarati, Blessing Masakadza and Faithcandy.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail Leisure, Jive Zimbabwe director Benjamin Nyandoro said they wanted to enhance a culture of broadly celebrating local artistes through various initiatives.

“One of these initiatives are the monthly birthday parties we will be hosting at various venues to celebrate birthdays of our celebrities and influential personalities,” said Nyandoro.

He added: “In January we had the ‘JaNoWorry Party’ and for this month we have decided to host the ‘Febulous Hangout Party’ and we intend to continue hosting these parties throughout the rest of the year.”

He said the aim is to change people’s mindset towards local artistes as they get to interact with them in a more relaxed environment away from the stage.

“We want fans to interact with these personalities, which is why we are also inviting anyone who was born in February to also come and join in the fun.

“Some of the celebrities who are expected to come through include Winky D, Mannex, Suluman Chimbetu, Sam Dondo, Alick Macheso, Boom Beto, Tytan, and Pah Chihera, among others.”

“Besides enjoying the cake, food and drinks; we have also lined up several surprise performances so people who are coming should be prepared to have a good time.”

Boom Beto, one of the artistes set to grace the event, said this is a brilliant concept which gives artistes the chance to have fun with their fans.

“It is a great thing to celebrate with the fans and also to be celebrated by the whole nation so personally I am humbled by this initiative,” he said.

Another personality who will also be part of the celebrations, Exavier “Whezhaz” Maoneke, endorsed the party, saying it is something worth looking forward to.

“I feel greatly honoured to have been respected in this fashion, mind you February is the month of charismatic leaders, so this celebration will just be icing on the cake.”
