Sister Flame makes her come-back

- Andrew Moyo

BURSTING onto the scene in the early 2000s as part of the More Fire Crew fronted by the late Andy Brown, Fortunate Matenga — popularly known as Sister Flame — had all the traites of a star in the making.

She also had a stint with Ruvhuvhuto Sisters, combining with Ivy Kombo, the late Jackie Madondo and Plaxedes Wenyika.

But her brilliant vocal abilities and charming personality, it seems, were not enough. Sister Flame vanished from the spotlight almost as quickly as she had entered it.

Several prior attempts to rekindle the fire fell flat, but her peers recognise what she as they recently joined her on stage in Harare at City Sports Bar for the “Divas Special Jam Session”.

“I know that I have been a bit quiet but I have never stopped doing music and it’s only that I have been doing a lot of stuff in the background. I have been featured on several projects mostly involving hip-hop artistes who include Gze, MobX, Slay Young and Jay Mashaire to name a few,” Sister Flame told The Sunday Mail Leisure.

She said raising kids had been another reason why she had not been too visible in the industry.

Sister Flame plans an official launch of her mix-tape, “Love Sweet Fears”, which was released recently on social media platforms. She has two other albums to her name.

“I am currently working on my new album and if all goes well, I will have wrapped up the project by August. I don’t intend to rush this project because I want it to be perfect when it’s done, which is why I am working with both local and international producers.

“This album will be made up of numerous genres including reggae and soul among others as I intend to appeal to various audiences.

“The game plan for now is to get on stage and perform as much as possible and besides that and the new music coming out, music fans should also watch out for new music videos that we are also shooting.”

The singer is set to embark on a nationwide tour which will start in Bulawayo next month.
