EACH and every 1st of July holds a special sad reflection in our memories of the late Father Zimbabwe Dr Joshua MN Nkomo’s passing on. Can it not be a national calendar holiday as a befitting honour of a great hero who sacrificed his dear life for the unity and peace for us all? - Lovemore Kashawo, Kuwadzana.

Accidents are blamed on speed. We forget that when a vehicle, especially commuter omnibuses, are stopped at police roadblocks the driver or conductor goes to the officer when in fact the police officer should go and inspect the vehicle. - LM, Shamva.

First Street in Harare CBD is an eyesore. The City of Harare may be facing difficulties here and there but repairing potholes in First Street cannot dent the municipal purse. The brick pavement is now littered with gaps where bricks have come off and these are morphing into depressions and ugly potholes. Sure, just one tonne of bricks can cover all the gaps in First Street. Some of the street kids have set up homes in First Street and the place looks awful. - Thomas Murisa, Harare.

I could not help it but marvel when I saw the reproduction of Cde Chinx’s interview that was held in 2013 albeit this time as an obituary. If my memory serves me well, it is through the commendable works of The Sunday Mail “Chronicles from the 2nd Chimurenga” that we got to know of the priceless exploits of the late revolutionaries such as Cde Kumbirai Kangai, Brig-General Muchemwa, Brig-Gen Hashim Mbita who contributed immensely in our protracted armed struggle against Smith-led regime. Keep up the good work! - Edson Mapani.
