Get rid of dumpsite near Charles Bricks Court

-

EDITOR - I am baffled by those running the affairs of Harare.

We have been asking them to get rid of the dumpsite near Charles Bricks Court in Mbare, but all our complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

This is an area that we have had problems with for some time.

Since the rain season, many people in the suburb have been at risk of contracting typhoid and cholera because there is a water source less than 20 metres away from the dumpsite.

Carbon monoxide has become our daily bread, and that is not fair. Something must be done quickly. Residents continue to complain, but the responsible chaps seem unmoved and have remained indifferent.

If the possibility of death isn’t a sign for them to act, we fear nothing will ever be done.

Most of those who live in that part of Mbare work for council. They, too, are at risk. Yet, nothing is being done about the situation.

Please, may higher authorities intervene so that this dumpsite is removed from our place of residence, especially as water is concerned.

What is more, children often play in the puddles that have formed in that area. What if they fall sick? Who will be responsible for their medical bills? Of course, it is the parents. But the parents will perhaps turn the heat on those responsible for ensuring a clean and safe environment for residents by suing them. Concerned, Harare.
