Platinum back on top

Bantu Rovers. . . . . . . . . . (0) 0 FC Platinum. . . . . . . . . . . (0) 1 FC PLATINUM kept their assault on a maiden Premiership title on track with a slender victory over Bantu Rovers at Luveve yesterday.

Norman Mapeza’s boys from Zvishavane are now back on top of the log standings with 35 points thanks to a second half goal by Rodwell Chinyengetere.

Pure Platinum Play have a point advantage over Ngezi Platinum Stars who host resurgent Hwange at the Baobab this afternoon.

Following an impressive midweek 3-1 win over Dynamos, FC Platinum needed to keep the momentum and they did just that in Bulawayo yesterday.

After a goalless first half , in which FC Platinum created numerous chances, the miners got in front after 58 minutes when Chinyengetere fired home from close range.

Mapeza started with a front three comprising of new signings Mkhokheli Dube and Ali Sadiki as well as Charles Sibanda in a 4-3-3 formation.

Dube could have opened his platinum account after only five minutes but his header crashed against the post.

Sadiki had a decent game and so did Brett Amidu who seems to have found his footing after an indifferent start to life in the mining town of Zvishavane.

Bantu Rovers remain second from bottom with nine points from 19 matches and their defence – which has now conceded 38 goals – is the worst in the league.

In Beitbridge, How Mine came from behind to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw against bottom placed Tsholotsho at Dulivhadzimo.

Chikurupati are now third on the log with 33 points, two behind new log leaders FC Platinum while Tsholotsho remain winless in 19 matches.

After a rather poor start to the 2017 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, Kevin Kaindu’s How Mine have rediscovered their formula.

The Bulawayo side has lost just once in the last 10 games and the gold miners have slowly been pushing towards the top echelons of the log.
