Chibuku’s Sunshine Boys

- Brighton Zhawi

Black Rhinos ............................(0) Harare City ...............................(1) THE Sunshine Boys just love their Chibuku.

The 2015 Chibuku Super Cup champions booked a fourth consecutive semi-final berth after edging Black Rhinos at Rufaro yesterday.

Protasho Kabwe sealed the deal with a sublime finish in the 23rd minute, controlling well a long searching ball before shooting past Rhinos keeper Herbert Rusawo.

Black Rhinos mounted some serious pressure in the second half with Lot Chiwunga, Benjami Marere and substitute Roy Mwenga all coming close.

However, Philani “Beefy” Ncube’s boys hung on to maintain their impressive record in the Chibuku Super Cup.

Harare City reached the final in 2014, won it in 2015 and last season they bowed out at the semi-final stage, falling to eventual winners Ngezi Platinum Stars.

But yesterday, the Sunshine Boys were lucky to escape as Chauya Chipembere could have taken this one had their strikers not been blunt.

Chiwunga’s volley was cleared off the line by City defender Takudzwa Chimwemwe in the 61st before Mwenga failed to connect a Farai Banda cross 10 minutes later.

Black Rhinos coach Stanford “Stix” Mtizwa rued the missed chances.

“If you don’t utilise chances like what we did you get punished,” he said.

“We wanted to contain them in the first 45 minutes but we failed and conceded a silly goal. We are now focusing on the league and we will work on our finishing but I still have confidence in my strikers.”
